In February of 1994, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a list of 92 adverse reactions attributed to aspartame, as reported to the FDA. They included migraines, tinnitus, blurred vision, slurred speech, tremors, hyperactivity, insomnia and joint pain.

Answering Dr. Paul Spiers who defended his last study on aspartame
(Independent study showed problems, Monsanto funded study showed safety – which do you believe?)
In order to understand why many do not take Dr. Spiers last study seriously on aspartame one has to know the whole story. Dr. Paul Spiers and Dr. Richard Wurtman of MIT have worked together for years. Aspartame was manufactured by Searle and Monsanto bought them in l985. Dr. Wurtman at one time was a Searle consultant but quit his job and became a vocal NutraSweet opponent. He told Gregory Gordon who did an 8 month investigation on aspartame for United Press International in l987 that he had been contacted by more than 200 persons who suspected they suffered seizures as a result of NutraSweet use. A pivotal study used in the approval of NutraSweet was SC 18862 “A 52 Week Oral Toxicity Infant Monkey Study”. Seven monkeys were fed aspartame, 5 had grand mal seizures and 1 died. This study was used to show safety!
Dr. Wurtman wanted to do more studies and told Gregory Gordon “Dr. Gerald Gaull, a Searle vice president, visited his laboratory in l985 and threatened to veto funding by International Life Sciences Institute, the Washington-based tax-exempt foundation, for his planned study into whether NutraSweet changes brain chemistry, lowering some humans’ seizure threshold.” Gaull did not deny the threat and Dr. Wurtman did not receive the research funds.
Also, in l987 Dr. Paul Spiers did an INDEPENDENT study on aspartame and was very concerned. Here are some quotes about that study from different references:
UPI Investigation, l987: “Dr. Paul Spiers, a clinical neuropsychologist at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital, found in a recent pilot study that after consuming NutraSweet, some subjects with no previous problems failed to show the usual improvement in performance on cognitive tests.”
NutraPoison by Alex Constantine, l994: “Even more daunting are the findings of Dr. Paul Spiers, a neuropsychologist at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital, that aspartame use can depress intelligence. For this reason, he selected experimental subjects with a history of consuming it but unaware that they might be suffering ill effects. ….Spiers was alarmed to discover that they developed “cognitive deficits.” …..
Daily Record, Northwest, New Jersey, June 2, l987: “Dr. Paul Spiers, a clinical neuropsychologist of the Behavioral Neurology Unit and the Harvard Medical School’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, presented at the meeting some preliminary evidence that use of aspartame over a period of time might affect intellectual functioning in normal users. In an interview Spiers said the findings had been something of an accident. He had been planning to study the effects of aspartame on individuals who reported that they had suffered seizures after ingesting aspartame. However, he was first ethically bound to run the tests on normal control subjects to confirm their safety.” “For that reason, “he said, “we went out and selected people specifically who had a history of using NutraSweet products and were not aware of it having any adverse effects on them. We picked people who had normal neurological histories, no history of psychiatric illness and no physical problems – nothing in fact, that would suggest that we would expect to have any problems. ” ….Among the tests was a sophisticated computer test called “Think Fast” which requires comparisons, copying and recall of patterns of blocks and sequences of letters. Spiers described it as “quite demanding and self-paced, becoming increasingly difficult. Normally when a test like this is repeated subjects tend to improve in their performance as they learn how the test is done.” Nevertheless, the subjects on aspartame failed to improve and “some of them frankly showed a reverse pattern where their performance got worse.” ……Spiers believes the findings are important. A second group of volunteers who were given a placebo instead of aspartame showed none of the problems manifested by the aspartame group. ….”We are wondering whether in fact this substance may be capable of having a subtle effect on cognitive functioning that people may not necessarily be aware of. Think of the implications, for example, on an average college student who starts consuming a liter of this stuff during examination period, and it may in fact be interfering with his concentration and attention skills.”
Said Spiers, “This kind of neuropsychological cognitive examination has never been used to investigate the effects of new drugs of any kind. Now, we have food additives that are more like drugs than foods, that are introduced into the dietary chain but have direct effects on the brain’s neurotransmitter system. But because the chemical industry is 20 years ahead of the regulators, thus far no one has attempted to apply more sophisticated methods of testing brain functions to these problems.”
Barbara Metzler whose daughter’s case is in Dr. H. J. Roberts first book on aspartame “Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe? (Charles Press) just wrote and said: “It was interesting to read Spiers letter, especially in view of the fact that about 15 years ago, my daughter spent 3 days with the doctors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Clinical Research Center (CRC) to determine if she had temporal lobe epilepsy or aspartame toxicity. Guess what? They told her that she didn’t have temporal lobe epilepsy. She stopped drinking her usual 2 cans of diet soda a day, and all of her problems vanished.” Who did her daughter see? One of the physicians was Dr. Spiers. Barbara Metzler still has the letter from Dr. Wurtman written before her trip to CRC – that said her problems could quite possibly be from aspartame. She was taken there after she was diagnosed as having temporal lobe epilepsy by a neurologist in Pennsylvania. Her daughter also developed personality changes with the use of aspartame which also disappeared when she abstained from the toxin.
What has happened since this time? Dr. Richard Wurtman and Dr. Paul Spiers no longer give interviews on the dangers of aspartame. And they no longer worry about research funds that were denied Dr. Wurtman when he wanted to do studies on aspartame and seizures. In fact, this study by Dr. Spiers was funded by Monsanto Chemical Company.
When the famed Dr. John Olney made world news in l996 on the aspartame/brain tumor issue he was on 60 Minutes accompanied by Dr. Ralph Walton. Dr. Walton is the Chairman of The Center For Behavioral Medicine. When he did a study on aspartame Monsanto refused to sell him the product because they would have no control over this “independent study”. Indeed, the institution had to stop it when one man was bleeding from the eyes, one sustained a retained detachment and others complained of being poisoned. On 60 Minutes Dr. Walton explained that he had done some peer reviewed research on aspartame and found that 74 of 74 studies sponsored by industry showed aspartame’s safety. But of the non-industry funded 90 studies, 83 showed problems with aspartame. Six of these were from the FDA who over-ruled a Board of Inquiry to approve aspartame and many times called Monsanto’s Washington Branch Office – so they had to be discounted. And one literature reviewed reflected almost exclusively the industry sponsored research. Dr. Walton said: “If these studies are excluded, along with the literature review focusing only on NutraSweet funded research, then 100% of the truly independently funded research demonstrated some type of adverse reaction to NutraSweet.
Why is it that when Searle/Monsanto’s checkbook and influence is not involved, that 100% per cent of independent studies show problems with aspartame. Is Dr. Spiers saying he takes back everything demonstrated on the first independent study? Now that Monsanto funded it, it’s safe as rain!!!!! Dr. Walton certainly made the point well.
Dr. Spiers, you have admitted Monsanto funded this study but that your salary was funded by the Center for Brain Sciences & Metabolism. So who funded the Center for Brain Sciences & Metabolism or was this just done to try and pull the wool over the public’s eyes. Obviously, now that Dr. Wurtman and you are no longer critics, Monsanto could no longer let your original study stand. Do I take seriously your second study? Not in the least!
Also, in reviewing many tapes of TV programs over the controversy of aspartame as the public was outraged by their reactions such as seizures, blindness, MS type of symptoms, etc., many times it was mentioned how they “fix” the studies. Sometimes using capsules with a full meal where as victims many times do not use the toxin with food. Diagrams were shown where huge hunks of aspartame or aspartame components were used in the animal’s food so they would eat around what would cause a reaction. In your case you used capsules and soda – therefore there is no study at all.
In a radio interview with Russell Blaylock, M.D., neurosurgeon and author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills (in transcript and audio on www.dorway.com) he explains how studies are fixed. He said: “In the book I go through in some detail some of the methods that’s been used by people either who were paid by the companies to produce research that gave them the result they wanted, or just poor design of the research project had that result. You can throw away data, you can hide data, you can use special blocking anesthetics on the animals that are known to block excitotoxin effects, that’s been done. You can feed high carbohydrate meals at the same time to help reduce the effects of it, as I said you can use an encapsulated form of aspartame that is poorly absorbed. there’s just a lot of different ways that you could do it. Now one of the things about excitotoxins and seizures, recently it was found that the time of day that you feed these animals the excitotoxin made a lot of difference. For example, when they fed them at 7:00 A.M. they had a significant increase in the number and intensity of seizure and much reduction in the seizures when given at 3:00 P.M. or 11:00 P.M. Nearly 70% of the animals died in status epilepticus, that is a seizure that won’t stop and animals given these excitotoxins at 7:00 A.M. versus later in the day so that all sorts of variables can make a lot of difference in the sensitivity and how you can doctor things or get the results that you want.”
Now there is a difference in humans and animals as Dr. Blaylock points out. Rats and mice metabolize phenylalanine and aspartame much different than humans do. As Dr. Blaylock also said “Humans mostly will have elevated phenylalanine levels in the blood, whereas the mice and rats will develop a different amino acid, tyrosine, so that makes a lot of difference in experimental results. The other thing is that rats require a two time higher dosage and mice a seven times higher dose of aspartame than would humans to produce the same increase in plasma phenylalanine. so this means that humans are seven times more sensitive than mice and two times more sensitive than rats to aspartame seizure potential.”
I should mention at this point that the daily allowable intake of aspartame was set for rats and not humans and admitted by the FDA Commissioner in Congress. In three congressional hearings there was great discussion about this ADI and obvious disgust by competent and renowned physicians concerned with the approval of the neurotoxin aspartame.
Dr. Blaylock continued by saying “Also in humans they are consuming excitotoxins in other forms, MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein. As I stated the additive effect of these things is much worse than is single exposure. the other thing that makes a lot of difference is the form in which you consume the aspartame. We know that liquid excitotoxins are much more toxic and much more likely to produce seizures than are sold forms, that is solid foods. Encapsulated aspartame is used in a lot of the experiments and its poorly absorbed, only 50% o it is absorbed. So various metabolic effects of aspartame are purposely or inadvertently not applicable to humans. the human cases, we have many, many clinical cases of seizures that are precipitated by aspartame products that are actually double blind studies not designed that way but, they end up double blind studies. So we have good evidence that in humans aspartame causes seizures.”
At the time I read Dr. Spiers defense, James Bowen, M.D., (503-901-2002) called so I read it to him. He agreed that if you use capsules and soda there is no study. He also said: “The dry capsule form is never a valid study because it bypasses the oral absorption or buccal absorption of the intact molecule which is one of the major toxicities of NutraSweet because typically it will be broken down into the digestive tract into about 10 other poisons, none of which are of the severity of the intact molecule. Secondly, you do not get the cycliazation such as diketopiperazine (DKP) which as been on often repeated studies shown to be the number one brain tumor substance known to man. Thirdly, by using the dry capsule you avoid a major toxicity which was recognized by the FDA many years ago that is that NutraSweet is a potent chelating agent carrying toxic heavy metals such as aluminum into the body. Moreover, the figures presented by the researcher, in this case, do not in fact represent a likely intake of aspartame by a significant part of the consuming population. For example, I commonly find that most aspartame addicts do indeed ingest three of the two liter bottles of diet pop on a regular basis, plus using other sources of aspartame. Moreover, in spite of the large volume of lengthy words used here by the company representative, nothing is presented that would reassure any of us who had a long history of dealing with the corruption of a large part of our government and academia by the NutraSweet lobby. What speaks out louder and what they would like to bury is the extreme evidence offered by anecdotal information. This so-called anecdotal information is, in fact, the real experience of the real public using the aspartame in the manner that they really do and the results obtained, this is more than double blinded because the public is continually exposed to a blitz of advertising to brainwash them that this is hygienic and completely safe, as well as natural and nutritional, none of which are true. Moreover, as this most recent input so elegantly demonstrates, the medical profession has been completely blinded insofar as possible to the hazards of this poison. The horrible anecdotal experience of the public from this is well documented and the www.dorway.com web site speaks more loudly than anything that these people can dream up.
Moreover, this rebuttal is amply confirmed by the earlier works of these researchers done when they were not funded by aspartame or other affiliated agency, which clearly showed that this is too toxic to be on the market. Dr. Blaylock, another expert in this field has made similar comments.” (James Bowen, M.D.)
H. J. Roberts, M.D. in his book Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe?, Charles Press, published some of the most damning evidence on the approval process of this deadly neurotoxin, especially in a chapter titled “The Myth of “The Most thoroughly Tested Additive In History”. While NutraSweet yells all these studies showed safety they fail to mention that some of these studies were the target of an indictment for fraud against the company. Power in industry?! The defense team hired both U.S. Prosecutors and the statute of limitations expired! Yet, these original studies ended up approving aspartame.
Dr. Roberts in this chapter quotes Dr. Frank Young, FDA Commissioner, who told a Senate hearing on November 3, l987 that the ADI – in the absence of human data – represents a projection of animal studies based on lifetime intake. He defined it as “…an estimate of the amount of the food additive, expressed on a body weight basis, that can be adjusted daily over a lifetime without appreciable health risk. It focuses on continued exposure over a lifetime and not on the exposure that could occur on any given day.”
The FDA has been taken to task for this arbitrary decision!
How much damage can this do? The Atlanta Journal Constitution recently applied the ADI to humans and never retracted the article even though they were called by a former FDA Investigator, Arthur Evangelista, who told them you cannot apply this to humans, it misleads the public and that aspartame is a chemical poison. They refused to retract the information so teenagers weighing the amount they used could take this seriously, use this amount and it could trigger in them disability or death. For this the Hall of Shame is being set up on www.dorway.com dedicated to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. They had received full information including the quote by the FDA Commissioner himself which is part of the Congressional Record.
Probably the most outrageous tactic of industry in the approval of aspartame as listed on page 243 was engaging a private group, Universities Associated for Research and Education in Pathology, to determine the factual accuracy of prior aspartame studies – BUT with the stipulation that UAREP “shall not express an opinion” regarding either the design or safety significance of these studies, nor make recommendations about the safety of aspartame for human use!.” THEY SWORE THEM TO SILENCE!
And this kind of shenanigans put aspartame (NutraSweet/Equal/Spoonful) on every restaurant table – a deadly, deadly, deadly neurotoxin. Case histories flood in from all over the world of the sick and dying. The FDA may call them anecdotal but it use to be called “clinical observation”. Below is one that just came in, notice the psychological problems it triggers. Dr. Roberts has already written a report on aspartame and dry eye.
Dr. Roberts in his book about professional obstacles says: “The potential multiplicity of corporate and bureaucratic obstacles confronting individuals or small firms who challenge large companies has been described by Morton Mintz and Jerry Cohen in America, Inc.: Who Owns and Operates The United States. In his introduction, Ralph Nader emphasized some of the “relentless” strategies used … including friends in governmental bodies responsible for regulating “harmful food additives”.
Today, Dr. H. J. Roberts has declared Aspartame Disease a world plague. There are 20,000 web sites alerting the public on the dangers. There are two support groups on line for the victims. Physicians are beginning to set up Aspartame Detoxification Centers throughout the United States. There are now four and the famed Dr. Julian Whitaker has opened his offices with hyperbaric oxygen chambers to aspartame victims. Newton Laboratories has made an antidote to try and remove some of the formaldehyde accumulating in the cells (as proven by the Trocho Study). This study (www.dorway.com) also shows it damages DNA and that means it can destroy a species.

A new medical text on this world plague is about to be released. Statements in the United Press International investigation really put the issue in prospective:
“Drs Louis Elsas of Emory University and William Pardridge of the UCLA Medical School charged that the diet food and drink industry has engaged in a “whitewash” by rejecting health concerns, manipulating research studies and wining and dining scientific critics.”
“These and other researchers describe a world of subtle, high-stakes strategy in which the availability of corporate funds and the design of research protocols may have influenced the course of a multibillion – dollar industry and potentially affected the safety of millions of people.”
“Elsas who publicly assailed NutraSweet in l985, said he was put off for a year before ILSI rejected his proposal without stating a reason.”
“While denying funding for these aspartame skeptics, the company (G. D. Searle/NutraSweet Co.) and ILSI have financed researchers with whom they have long-running relationships. A number of industry-funded scientists acknowledged that company and ILSI officials originated ideas for their studies or participated in the research design. These studies generally have reported the sweetener is safe.”
“In the summer of l985, the firm flew Wurtman, Elsas, Matalon, Pardridge, several of their wives and other NutraSweet critics to a two day meeting at a luxurious home in Northeast harbor, Maine. An afternoon was spent on a yacht, participants said. “This was industry wooing the concerned to shut up.” Elsas said.”
“Dr. Richard Wurtman, Massachusetts Institute of Technology neuroscientist, says heavy NutraSweet consumption may so flood the bloodstream with phenylalanine that other essential amino acids are blocked from reaching the brain, causing chemical changes that can affect behavior and lower the threshold at which many suffer epileptic seizures.”
“Dr. Sidney Wolfe, executive director of the Washington-based Health Research Group said, “The thing that’s really worrisome is that it clearly affects brain metabolism in animals, and anyone who disputes that is irresponsible.”
“Dr. Richard Matalon of the University of Illinois has reported that heavy consumption of NutraSweet’s main component – the amino acid phenylalanine – may cause neurological problems such as loss of memory and concentration.”
“Dr. William Pardridge of the UCLA Medical School, who also has done phenylalanine research, said he most fears the sweetener’s effect on children, who, he says, “are more likely to approach the FDA’s acceptable daily intake level of 50 milligrams per kilogram of body weight.”
“Consumer lawyer Jim Turner said, “The notion that an industrial company would take large sums of money and parcel it out to scientific consulting firms and university departments, who they consider to be personal and commercial allies is an unconscionable way to ensure the safety of the American food supply.” He said the NutraSweet experience shows that “the entire system of the way scientific research is done needs to be carefully investigated, evaluated and revamped.”
“Matalon said, “Let us say cigarettes were invented today and you give 20 people two packs a day and after six weeks, no one has cancer, would you say that it was safe? That’s what they did with NutraSweet.”
I rest my case. Unfortunately many of these physicians have now been silenced or are on industry’s side – in my opinion because of research funding. As Cynthia Crossen said in “The Tainted Truth” – “The road to hell was paved with research funds.”
Dr. Spiers: You could more convince me you own the Brooklyn Bridge before you could convince me that your INDEPENDENT study on aspartame showing problems means nothing but that your INDUSTRY funded study which didn’t show problems – we should take seriously.
The bottom line is that the biggest study ever done on aspartame has been done on the consumer public in 100 countries of the world. What we are seeing may end up being the largest plague (Aspartame Disease) in world history! A debate between Senator Howard Metzenbaum and Senator Orin Hatch shown on CNN many years ago has Senator Hatch resisting congressional hearings. He was paid by Monsanto. Senator Metzenbaum said: “Orin, its going to be too late”. Indeed! I personally believe that more people have died from aspartame than in many wars!

I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on ASPARTAME: Marketed as ‘NutraSweet,’ ‘Equal,’ and ‘Spoonful.’ In the keynote address by the EPA, they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was using this to be rampant across the United States.
I explained I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. When the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME coverts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.) The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus, people were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is.
In the case of systemic lupus, we are finding it has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. Also, with methanol toxicity, the victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. cans of them per day, some even more. In the cases of systemic lupus, which is triggered by ASPARTAME, the victim usually does not know that the aspartame is the culprit. The victim continues its use aggravating the lupus to such a degree, that sometimes it becomes life threatening.
When we get people off the aspartame, those with systemic lupus usually become asymptotic. Unfortunately, we cannot reverse this disease. On the other hand, in the case of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We have seen cases where their vision has returned and even their hearing has returned. This also applies to cases of tinnitus.
During a lecture I said “If you are using ASPARTAME [NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.] and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss, you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE!” People were jumping up during the lecture saying, “I’ve got this. Is it reversible?” It is rampant. Some of the speakers at my lecture even were suffering from these symptoms. In one lecture attended by the Ambassador of Uganda, he told us that their sugar industry is adding aspartame! He continued by saying that one of the industry leader’s son could no longer walk due in part to product usage! We have a very serious problem.
Even a stranger came up to Dr. Espisto, (one of my speakers) and myself and said, “Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS?” During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke drinkers, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence. Here is the problem. There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was originally included as a sweetener in 100 different products. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail.
Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!
At the time of this first hearing, people were going blind. The methanol in the Aspartame converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye. Formaldehyde is grouped in the same class of drugs as cyanide and arsenic – DEADLY POISONS!!! Unfortunately, it just takes longer to quietly kill, but it is killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems. Aspartame changes the brain’s chemistry. It is the reason for severe seizures. This drug changes the dopamine level in the brain. Imagine what this drug does to patients suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.
This drug also causes birth defects. There is absolutely no reason to take this product. It is NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional record said, “It makes you crave Carbohydrates and will make you FAT.” Dr. Roberts stated that when he got patients off aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person.
The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Aspartame is especially deadly for diabetics. All physicians know what wood alcohol will do to a diabetic. We find that physicians believe that they have patients with retinopathy, when in fact, it is caused by the aspartame. The aspartame keeps the blood sugar level out of control, causing many patients to go into a coma.
Unfortunately, many have died. People were telling us at the conference of the American College of Physicians, that they had relatives that switched from saccharin to an aspartame product and how that relative had eventually gone into a coma. Their physicians could not get the blood sugar levels under control. Thus, the patients suffered acute memory loss and eventually coma and death. Memory loss is due the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids found protein. Thus it goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain.
Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon, said, “The ingredients stimulates the neurons of the brain to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. Dr. Blaylock has written a book entitled “EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS” Health Press 1-800-643-2665). Dr. H. J. Roberts, diabetic specialist and world expert on aspartame poisoning, has also written a book entitled “DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE” (1-800-814-9800). Dr. Roberts tells how aspartame poisoning is escalating Alzheimer’s Disease, and indeed it is. As the hospice nurse told me, women are being admitted at 30 years of age with Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Blaylock and Dr. Roberts will be writing a position paper with some case histories and will post it on the Internet.
According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, “We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison.” Dr. Roberts realized what was happening when aspartame was first marketed. He said, “His diabetic patients presented memory loss, confusion, and severe vision loss.” At the Conference of the American College of Physicians, doctors admitted that they did not know.They had wondered why seizures were rampant (the phenylalanine in aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence). Just before the Conference, I received a fax from Norway, asking for a possible antidote for this poison because they are experiencing so many problems in their country. This “poison” is now available in 90 PLUS countries worldwide.
Fortunately, we had speakers and ambassadors at the Conference from different nations who have pledged their help. We ask that you help too. Print this article out and warn everyone you know. Take anything that contains aspartame back to the store. Take the “NO ASPARTAME TEST” and send us your case history.
I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. They fund the American Association, American Dietetic Association Congress, and the Conference of the American College of Physicians. The New York Times, November 15, 1996, ran an article on how the American Dietetic Association takes money from the food industry to endorse their products. Therefore, they cannot criticize any additives or tell about their link to MONSANTO.
How bad is this? We told a mother who had a child on NutraSweet to get off the product. The child was having grand mal seizures every day. The mother called her physician, who called the ADA, who told the doctor not to take the child off the NutraSweet. We are still trying to convince the mother that the Aspartame is causing the seizures. Every time we get someone off of aspartame, the seizures stop. If the baby dies, you know whose fault it is, and what we are up against. There are 92 documented symptoms of aspartame, from coma to death. The majority of them are all neurological, because the aspartame destroys the nervous system.
Aspartame Disease is partially the cause to what is behind some of the mystery of the Desert Storm health problems. The burning tongue and other problems discussed in over 60 cases can be directly related to the consumption of Aspartame product. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks were shipped to the Desert Storm troops. (Remember heat can liberate the methanol from the aspartame at 86 degrees F.) Diet drinks sat in the 120 degree F Arabian sun for weeks at a time on pallets The servicemen and women drank them all day long. All of their symptoms are identical to aspartame poisoning. Dr. Roberts says consuming Aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects.”
According to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician and Professor of Genetics, at Emory University, In his testimony before Congress. The phenylalanine concentrates in the lacenta, causing mental retardation. In the original lab tests, animals developed brain tumors, phenylalanine breaks down into DXP, a brain tumor agent.) When Dr. Espisto was lecturing on aspartame, one physician in the audience, a neurosurgeon, said, “When they remove brain tumors, they have found high levels of aspartame in them.” Stevia, a sweet food, NOT AN ADDITIVE, which helps in the metabolism of sugar, which would be ideal for diabetics, has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA for years, the FDA has outlawed this sweet food because of their loyalty to MONSANTO. If it says “SUGAR FREE” on the label – DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. Senator Howard Hetzenbaum wrote a bill that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children of the dangers of aspartame. The bill would have also instituted independent studies on the problems existing in the population (seizures, changes in brain chemistry, changes in neurological and behavioral symptoms). It was killed by the powerful drug and chemical lobbies, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public. Since the Conference of the American College of Physicians, we hope to have the help of several world leaders.

Hi my name is Jonathan Summer. I am currently a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, where I am a mathematics major. I write to tell you my personal aspartame story. About seven to eight months ago, I came down with all sorts of psychological and physical problems, that were quite unpleasant to say the least. For many of those months, I searched for why, my depression came and went as it did. Then I saw the side of a pepsi can and the red letters. I had found the problem. I am now going on two months of recovery, with many withdrawl effects along the road. I feel fairly good, but I am not fully at two months, but about fifty days aspartame free. I had suspected artificial sweetners, but I had no idea they were as bad as they turned out to be. I now try to warn people of the danger that comes when you ingest aspartame. I currently suffer from a much milder depression, some numbness that might be part of the depression, some irritability and dry eye, which prohibits me from wearing contact lenses for long periods of times. I currently try to warn myco-workers, classmates and friends of the dangers of aspartame. Some people knew the danger of this stuff before me, and still opt to use this garbage.
